An Australian living in New York City has revealed an AirPods ‘life hack’, which she could not believe she did not know sooner.

Caitlin Emiko said her ex-boyfriend revealed the game-changing technology tip which solved one of her big problems living in the city.

However, the setting is only available on the AirPods Pro model.

Ms Emiko said: ‘I was on the phone to my ex boyfriend the other night and he told me this life hack that I feel like the biggest idiot for not knowing for this long.

‘So obviously when you have your AirPods in, it picks up all of the sound from like the cars and stuff, and he was like, “it’s so noisy, why don’t you use like voice isolation?”‘

The function filters out background noise when you are on a call, focusing on your voice

Ms Emiko proceeded to show people how to activate the feature.

Apple’s website describes the feature as one for ‘when you want your voice to be heard clearly in a call and other sounds filtered out’.

It adds: ‘Voice Isolation mode prioritises your voice and blocks out the ambient noise.’

To use this setting, as was demonstrated on the TikTok clip, you open your control centre during a call, tap ‘Mic Mode’ in the top-right, and select voice isolation – rather than standard or wide spectrum.

‘This whole time I’ve just had them on general and I did voice isolation, it was crystal clear and only picked up my voice,’ Ms Emiko said.

‘When I’m walking to the gym I’m like: “Oh, I can’t call you because it’s so noisy, like I’m next to the road.”

‘And then the other night I called my other friend and he was like, no, I can hear you so clearly.’

She then urged her 66,000-plus followers to do the same if they live in a noisy area, but one commenter pointed out that this only works for AirPods Pro rather than standard AirPods.

A pair of the Pro model sets you back £229, while the latest standard AirPods (third generation) come in £60 cheaper, and the second generation AirPods are a whole £100 less than the ones you need if you want the voice isolation feature.
